First weekly crop report indicates Iowa farmers are waiting on better weather

Cool, wet weather limited fieldwork across Iowa this past week.

In its first weekly crop progress report of the year, USDA says there were less than two days suitable to be working ground statewide, but some farmers were able to apply fertilizer and seed oats.

“We’re eagerly anticipating heading to the field (but) we need a warming trend here (because) it’s been cool, but we’ve got adequate moisture.”

Subsoil moisture levels across Iowa are rated 53 percent adequate to surplus and topsoil moisture levels are considered 66 percent adequate to surplus.
