The Iowa State Penitentiary has taken action in response to reports that synthetic drugs are being used on a large scale at the prison. On April 14th, municipal workers council 61 president Danny Homan sent out a press release stating 12 have been tied to the infiltration of the synthetic marijuana drug K2. ISP Spokesperson Lettie Prell announced this week that 5 offenders have been found guilty of violating institutional rules and received disciplinary sanctions in connection with their possession or use of the drugs. Martin Shane Moon, Anthony Koehlhoffer, Justin Michael Carder, Ryan Nicholas Trowbridge, and George Alan Deason were each cited for charges related to the drug problem. Each received sentences that included disciplinary detention and loss of time earned toward their sentences. The ISP is also training their staff in detection methods regarding the synthetic drugs.
