Janet Barnes

Janet Barnes, 91, of Keokuk, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

Janet was born on July 25, 1934, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Beck and Anna (Welch) Hutchens. On June 8, 1956, she was united in marriage to Thomas “Tom” K. Barnes in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2021. Janet was employed at several area businesses, including Woolworths, the Daily Gate City and the Super 8. She also volunteered at the VFW in Keokuk and enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida with Tom. Janet loved her flowers, hummingbirds and vegetable garden, but most of all, she loved her family.

Janet is survived by four sons: Keith (Chris) Barnes of Panama City, Florida, Kent Barnes of Keokuk, Kevin Todd Barnes of Bloomington, Illinois, Kurt (Casey) Barnes of Keokuk, Iowa; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Thomas “Tom” Barnes.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. Friends and family may gather at DeJong-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk at 10 am for a procession to the cemetery.
