Marion Albert Barr, 83, of Carthage, Illinois, passed away at 10:50 am on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois.

Marion was born on August 7, 1940, in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Albert and Shirley (Briley) Barr. He graduated from La Harpe High School in 1958. He went on to Western Illinois University and received his degree in Agriculture. From there, he enlisted in the Army and served from 1963-1965 at Ft. Benning, GA. On August 22, 1964, Marion was united in marriage to Sharon Woerly at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Macomb. Marion spent many years working on the farm and as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and formerly served as Grand Knight for the Carthage St. James Council. He was very involved with the Lion’s Club and the Hancock County Farm Bureau. He served on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 17 years. Marion enjoyed going to Cardinal games, NASCAR, and the Illinois State Fair stock car races.

Marion is survived by his three children; Teresa (Troy) Morris of Bloomington, IL, Christopher Barr of Rock Springs, WY, and Jonathan (Kim) Barr of Carthage, IL; his grandchildren, Andrea Morris of McKinney, TX, Erin (Justin) DeFields of Fort Wayne, IN, Elizabeth Morris of Bloomington, IL, Tyler Barr of Rushville, IL, and Kaila (Jacob) Rowland of Carthage, IL; his great grandchildren, Aria Rowland, Briella Rowland, and Futon DeFields; and a sister, Mary Helen Carroll of Cedar Rapids, IA.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Barr, his parents, and his brother-in-law, Paul Carroll.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage with burial to follow in the Majorville Cemetery near Fountain Green.  Visitation will be held Monday, June 3, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage. Printy Funeral Home is handling arrangements
