Marjorie Lydia Starr, 92, of Hamilton, went home to Jesus on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Hickory Grove Village in Carthage, IL. Marjorie was born in Keokuk, IA, on December 9, 1932, to Margaret (Twesten) and Arthur Troutvetter. She married R. Dean Starr on June 5, 1953, in Hamilton. He preceded her in death in 2020. They were blessed to celebrate 67 years together.
Marjorie graduated from Hamilton High School in 1950 and attended Culver Stockton College. Before her marriage, she worked at General Mills in Keokuk, IA. She and Dean raised their four children on the family farm in Sonora Township. Following their retirement, they owned and operated Mississippi Memories Bed and Breakfast. Marjorie had many interests and activities, but her love of music and Bible study were paramount. In addition to singing and playing the piano for countless weddings, funerals, and community events, she was the accompanist at the Nauvoo Easter Passion Play for many years and served on the Hancock County Theater & Performing Arts Board. She enjoyed serving in many capacities at Golden’s Point Church and hosting Bible studies in her home.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Matthew (Susan) Starr, Magen (Jon) Eller, Kathleen (Keith) Hamby, Nathan (Kasey) Taylor, Jordan Taylor, Andrew (Nickie) Firkins, Sarah (Austin) Ducey, Patrick (Megan) Elam, Kelsey (Charlie) Hoever, Jonathan (Anastasia) Elam, Jack Elam, and Kristina Elam. Fifteen great-grandchildren also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Alice Jeanne Bolton, and great-grandson, Lincoln Hamby.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at Golden’s Point Church, Hamilton, IL. A time of viewing will be held at the church from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Hamilton, IL.
