Mary Lee Welsh

Mary Lee Welsh, 83, of Montrose, IA, died Monday, December 25, 2023 at her home.

She was born on August 21, 1940 in Ft. Madison, IA, the daughter of Joseph H. and Eva Katherine Leeper Fichtenkort. She graduated from Clark County High School in Kahoka, MO with the Class of 1958 and then attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Quincy, Il where she received her R.N.

On December 29, 1979, Mary was united in marriage to Charles Welsh. He preceded her in death on October 7, 2022.

Mary had been employed as a registered nurse at Steel Castings in Keokuk and also at the State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison.

She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Keokuk.

Mary enjoyed reading romance novels, embroidering and watching T.V. One of her favorite shows was Dateline.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffry Arntzen of Keokuk and Scott (Lauren) Arntzen of California, four grandchildren, Jacob (Evelyn) Arntzen, Emma Arntzen, Clara Arntzen and Alex Arntzen and one great-grandchild, Finneas Arntzen.

Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph Fichtenkort, John Beaird, Don Beaird, Wayne Beaird and Floyd “Tiny” Beaird.

Services will be held at a later date.
