Mildred “Mickey” I. (Evans) Gray

Mildred “Mickey” Irene Gray, 79, of Keokuk, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Mickey was born on October 28, 1945, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd Evans and Frances (Carroll) Evans Hornung. On June 10, 1962, she was united in marriage to Chester Gray in Keokuk, Iowa. He survives.

Mickey had previously been a switchboard operator at Keokuk Area Hospital. She enjoyed a good garage sale or flea market, especially Rutledge. Mickey loved hanging out with the breakfast club girls. She always knew the local gossip and was known for voicing her opinion. Mickey looked out for everyone. She loved to craft, but she most treasured time with her grandkids.

Mickey is survived by her husband Chester Gray of Keokuk; her daughter Christine “Chris” (Doug) Hammel of Keokuk; her son Mike (Ruth) Gray of Peoria, Illinois; grandchildren: Brenda (Jim) Young, Justin Hammel, Doug (Lacey) Hammel and John and Chris Gray; great-grandchildren: Sarah, Emily, Brooklynn, Ethan and Bentley; her sister Martha Jutte of Texas; brother Chester (Anne) Evans of Virginia; brothers-in-law Calvin (Carol) Gray and Roger (Neva) Gray, both of Unionville, Missouri; and sister-in-law Clara Mae McDonald of Green City, Missouri.

Mickey is preceded in death by her parents and twins in infancy.

Services will be held at Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 12:00 pm (noon) with burial to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held just prior to services from 10:00 am-12:00 pm (noon).

Memorials may be directed to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
