Nebraska farmer says RFS isn’t the answer to increase ethanol demand

A Western Cron Belt farmer says the U.S.’s renewable fuels policy isn’t the solution to increase ethanol demand. 

Central Nebraska Farmer Clay Govier says the expanding the ethanol market should be a priority, but it shouldn’t come from the Renewable Fuels Standard.  “With crude prices as high as they are, I think ethanol is pretty profitable right now, so I don’t know if a mandate is 100 percent necessary.”

And, he says “I kind of hate saying that we need the regulation to kind of keep those bushels going towards either ethanol or biodiesel but certainly it seems like it’s necessary at least in the years where products aren’t quite as profitable.”

Govier says higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel used nationwide could be game changer.
