Nebraska farmer starts plants soybeans despite weather conditions

A South-Central Nebraska farmer says the drought has disrupted the beginning of planting season.

Jay Reiners says he started planting soybeans last Saturday near Juniata. “Soil conditions are really dry.  I ran pivots to incorporate my bean preemergence a couple of weeks ago, so I do have moisture. But, my dryland corners I don’t know what they’re going to survive on without some help from the good Lord here shortly.”

He tells Brownfield cold temperatures and high winds have put him behind schedule.
