At Tuesday’s Lee County Board of Supervisors meeting, the board voted to approve a 28E agreement appointing Doctor Craig Huston of Great River Medical Center in Burlington as the new county medical examiner. Huston will be shared with Henry and Des Moines counties but it was announced that the county would continue to pay for previous examiner Eugenio Torres’ medical insurance as part of the severance so that Torres can retire. Supervisor Matt Pflug stated that many funeral homes had been calling him wanting closure so that they can have death certificates signed. Auditor Denise Fraise assured Pflug that Doctor Huston has already been cleared to perform these duties. In other business, the board agreed to 2 separate IDOT funding programs for safety upgrades at X23 and J40 near West Point. Finally the board approved of the hiring of former Montrose Police Chief Jordan Maag as the final new deputy hire at the Sheriff’s Department.
