Ophelia “Veldy” Garcia, 98, of Fort Madson, IA, passed away at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at her home. She was born on January 20, 1928 in Fort Madison, IA to Dario & Anastacia Moreno Ruis. She married Daniel A. Garcia on November 30, 1946 in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1989. She owned & operated Vel’s Amigos in Fort Madison from 1983 to 2017. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, traveling & mariachi music.
Veldy is survived by: 4-children: Victoria (Daniel) Gomez, Michael Garcia, Liza Garcia & Daniel (Sheila) Garcia all of Fort Madison, IA; 12-grandchildren; 28-great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, 1-daughter in law: Tita Garcia, 1-sister: Eleanor Guzman, 4-brothers: Carlos “Chico”, Raul “Ralph”, Robert “Zip” & Salvador Garcia.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026 with a visitation to immediately follow from 9:45 to 11:00 a.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
