Pockets of dryness in Missouri keeping farmer from planting

Northwest Missouri farmer Richard Oswald says dryness is keeping him from planting corn.

“I think we have soil moisture for germination, but we’ve been a little on the dry side,” he says. “But, we’ve been a little on the dry side this winter and we’ve had some rains pass through the area.”

USDA’s latest crop progress and condition report says 1 percent of the state’s corn and rice crops have been planted – both behind the five-year average.
