Roger Dale Schulz, 93, of Keokuk, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Montrose Health Center in Montrose, Iowa.
Roger was born on June 23, 1932, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Leroy and Dorothy (Carmichael) Schulz. He graduated from Keokuk High School in 1952. On July 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Baxter in Keokuk. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2011.
Roger grew up in the First Christian Church of Keokuk and attended Living Waters Assembly of God and the Salvation Army Church in Keokuk, where he attended and served for many years. He was employed at Irwin-Phillips in his early career and finished most of his working years at Stone Container. He enjoyed watching baseball, fishing and square dancing, and never passed up an auction, yard sale or flea market. He could often be found “fixing” or tinkering on lawn mowers or spending time with friends and family. Some of his favorite memories include trips in hot air balloons. He will always be remembered for his loving and sometimes ornery personality.
Roger is survived by his son Dennis (Joan) Schulz of St. Louis, Missouri; two daughters: Cindy (Bob) Sturm of Argyle, Iowa, and Debbie (Rick) Carlton of Keokuk; eleven grandchildren: Christopher (Deena) Schulz, Nathaniel (Jason) Schulz, Timothy (Fiancée Erica) Carlton, Aaron (Erica) Carlton, Candace (Tyler) Graybill, Bradley (Melinda) Meredith, Ryan Sturm, Tyler (Brandy) Sturm, Katy (Dan) Koval, Heather (John) Temple and Sara Kniffen; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two special cousins: Michael Wilhelm of Mt. Pleasant and Stanley (Doris) Wilhelm of Keokuk.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carolyn; three siblings: Wayne, Dorothy Lee and Donald; and two infant siblings: Jewel and Joanne.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Printy Funeral Home, 917 Blondeau Street, Keokuk, Iowa, with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, from 3 to 7 pm, with family meeting friends from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Keokuk Humane Society.
