Ronald W. Hunold, 87, of Warsaw, passed away at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at his home.
Ron was born August 7, 1936, in West Point, Iowa, the son of Edward J. and Anna A. (Menke) Hunold. On February 4th, 1961, he was united in marriage to Betty J. Calvert at St. Mary’s in Fort Madison, Iowa. In his early years, Ron farmed with his family, then spent the rest of his life building. The first major project was the grain elevator in Montrose, which he owned and managed with his father and brother, Harold. A short time later, he moved into home building, partnering with Lowell and Ralph Junkins. Through the 70s, Montrose stretched to the West with dozens of new homes, which today are dwarfed by full-grown trees. To the west of Keokuk and on the bluffs of Ft. Madison he began housing projects which are now full of hundreds of homes. One of his favorite projects was the raising of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Montrose, where his services will be held. In his later years, he spent an endless amount of time woodworking and doing home renovations for his children and grandchildren from Lee County, Iowa to Florida, to as far away as Italy.
Ron is survived by Betty, his wife of sixty-two years; four children, Rhonda (Tim) Poe of Warrensburg, Missouri, Mitch (Nancy) Hunold of West Point, Iowa, Kent (Monica) Hunold of Houston, Texas and R. Andrew (Jennifer) Hunold of St. Augustine, Florida; eleven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irma Burch of Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Adrian, Harold, Bernard, Doris, and Gene.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Montrose, Iowa, at 11:00 AM Friday, December 29, 2023. Family will meet friends at the church Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00. Memorials may be directed to the Hunold Heritage Center. Printy Funeral Home of Warsaw is in charge of arrangements.
