Sharma Lee Herrera, 70, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at her home.
Sharma was born on April 30, 1956, in Exeter, California, the daughter of Charles and Maudie Evelyn (Ashby) Newell. She was later united in marriage to Alejandro Lopez Herrera in 1978 in Reno, Nevada. She completed her Certified Nursing Assistant program and went to work at River Hills Village and in home health throughout her career, retiring in 2005. She loved to color and joke around with her grandchildren, and her love of dragons delighted her and her family.
Sharma is survived by two daughters: Christina Lee Orellana of Fort Madison and Samantha Herrera of Burlington; two sons: Alejandro Lopez (Jennifer) Herrera, Jr. of Quincy, Illinois, and Andrew Herrera of Kahoka, Missouri; ten grandchildren: Alexandra Orellana of Orangeville, Illinois, Elizabeth Herrera of Kahoka, Azure Herrera of Platteville, Wisconsin, Katelinn Herrera of Kahoka, Monique Herrera Davenport, Iowa, Isabella Herrera of Fort Madison, Nova Herrera of Illinois, Andrew Herrera, Jr. of Fort Madison, Layona Bell of Burlington and Daisy Bell of Burlington.She also has 3 grandsons Eathan, Malaki, and Casiano who in her eyes were her grandsons of her heart. She claims Michael Bell as a son of her heart and had many friends she considered family.
Sharma is preceded in death by her husband Alejandro and her son Anthony Herrera.
According to her wishes, no services will be held.
DeJong-Printy Funeral Home of Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.
