Regular sex offender compliance checks will continue until there are no further violations, that was the message from Sheriff Stacy Weber Tuesday. On Monday the Sheriff’s department carried out registry compliance checks on each of Lee County’s 57 registered sex offenders. Weber explained that while he has discretion to hold these checks whenever he wants, this time of year is especially important.

While there were several violations, Weber felt that compliance is trending upwards as a result of the checks and the fact that both law enforcement and the county attorney’s office in Lee County both have a zero tolerance for sex offender violations.

Weber also stated that he anticipates holding more sex offender compliance checks under his tenure than the yearly follow ups conducted under the previous administration.
