Spring wheat offers opportunity

Commodity prices are driving some farmers to shift to spring wheat in the Upper Midwest.

BASF Technical Service Representative Dan Melaas tells Brownfield there’s a large chunk of spring wheat in the region that would not have been planted if not for the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“Return on investment is really good there so it makes it a lot easier to make that decision,” he says.

Melaas says farmers are still waiting to plant in North Dakota because of cool and wet conditions while farmers in South Dakota have been dry.
