Stephen L. “Steve” Yuskis, 74, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.
Steve was born on August 20, 1950, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Alex and Doris (Acker) Yuskis. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1968, and went on to serve his country in the United States Army Reserves, where he was honorably discharged after six years. He was employed for many years at Sheaffer Pen in international shipping, where he retired.
Steve was of the Catholic faith, and was very artistic, enjoying photography, painting and writing letters and post cards. He wasn’t a fan of modern technology, and shunned the cell phone and email, opting for his home phone and good old-fashioned snail mail whenever possible. He enjoyed the simple things in life, and lived on a river boat on the Mississippi River for a time. His greatest joy in his life was his family. From family reunions to spending time with his nieces and nephews, his family was the center of his universe.
Steve is survived by his sister Deb Yuskis-Mulch of Burlington; his sister-in-law Denise Yuskis of Warsaw; five nieces and nephews: Brock (Ciara) Yuskis of Warsaw, Brigitte Nettesheim of Kenilworth, Illinois, Tara (Christian) Boller of Brownstown, Michigan, Courtney Yuskis of Sutter and Mia Mulch of London, UK; and many great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rodney Yuskis.
According to his wishes, no services will be held.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
