Farmer says fieldwork is underway, but planting is not

Southern Ohio farmer Greg Corcoran says spring fieldwork is underway despite cool conditions. “It’s been wet on and off, but mostly cold. We haven’t had that temperature rise where we would like to see,” he says. “We’ve been able to apply 90 percent of our anhydrous. Dryer stretches, even though they were cold, allowed us to put a lot of our inputs in that we typically do ahead of planting.” […]

Cool, wet conditions keep planting at bay in southeast Minnesota

Adverse conditions are limiting fieldwork in southeast Minnesota. Red Wing area farmer Les Anderson says soils remain wet and cool. “Not very nice conditions, and of course the soil temperature is a big one as far as corn planting. I haven’t done any measurements, but with air temperatures this cold and freezes overnight basically, it’s not good conditions for planting corn.” He tells Brownfield a year ago corn planting was […]

Mixed week for export sales

U.S. export sales were mixed during the week ending April 21st. The USDA says soybeans, wheat, and pork all bounced back last week, while corn and beef posted week-to-week declines, with all of those below average, seeing some impact from the recent rally in the dollar. A higher dollar makes U.S. goods more expensive to foreign buyers and less competitive on the export market. The USDA’s next set of supply […]
