Tennessee farmers continue to benefit from weather, as planting progress remains ahead of the average pace.
Statewide, soybeans are 40% planted compared to 34% last year and the 5-year average of 29% with 22% of the crop emerged.
Corn is 88% planted, compared to 81% last year and the 5-year average of 81%. Cotton is 42% planted compared to the five-year average of 34%.
Winter wheat is rated 69% good to excellent with 94% of the crop headed and 6% coloring. Pastures are rated 63% good to excellent with limited growth reported. The USDA says production has declined because of the lack of moisture earlier in the year.
Topsoil moisture is 96% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is 96% adequate to surplus.
