Thomas “Tom” Joseph Handyside, 60, of Warsaw, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Illinois.

Tom was born in Keokuk, Iowa, on August 21st, 1965, to his parents Dwight and Patricia (Danford) Handyside. In his childhood he enjoyed time outdoors and caring for animals. He graduated from Keokuk High School and quickly enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

He was united in marriage June 27th, 1987, to his loving wife, Sheila Holtsclaw Handyside. They have three children, Gavin Handyside of Carthage, IL, Kailyn (Brian Joy) Handyside of Keokuk, IA, and Alexis (Luke) Kelly of Carthage, IL. He was Poppa to nine grandchildren: Carson Kelly, Kira Cale, Granger Kelly, Kaiser Joy, Bennett Kelly, Koda Joy, Kevin Joy, Kurt Joy, and Kermit Joy. He was so proud of each of them.

Tom is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother John (Patty) Handyside of Hannibal, MO, and a sister Sally Miller of Keokuk, IA. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dan Handyside, and sister Ann Pollock.

He will be remembered by his wit and charm. He was easy to love and loved easily.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 pm on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw. A memorial service will be held at 5 pm on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the funeral home following visitation. Burial at Keokuk National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
