Keokuk City Council Meetings
A Keokuk resident is claiming that he was run off the road and into the Des Moines river early Saturday morning but law enforcement reports are saying it could be a case of drunk driving. At 2:15 AM Saturday the Lee County Sheriff’s department made contact with 27 year old Geoffrey Francis after he reported that his sedan was run off the road by a brown and white pickup truck. Upon contact, Sheriff’s deputies suspected Francis was intoxicated and a subsequent breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol level of point 179 or more than twice the legal limit. The Keokuk Emergency Volunteer Core and Rairden’s towing extracted the vehicle, which was about 10 feet into the river, back onto land. Francis consented to a blood test which has been sent to the Department of Criminal Investigation for further testing.
