William “Bill” Guy Self, 69, of Burlington IA passed away Friday, December 6, 2024 at his home in Burlington, IA surrounded by his family.

He was born October 11, 1955 in Keokuk, the son of Charles and Pearl Stewart Self Gipe. Bill graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1975.

On September 8, 1975, Bill joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country for two years. He was honorably discharged on November 25, 1977.

In 1978, he was married to Norma Christine. To this union his daughter, Jennifer was born. They later divorced. On November 22, 1991, he was united in marriage to Mary Kisor in Keokuk. She survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Self of Chicago, IL, a step-son, James Kisor (Mary) of Crawfordsville, IA, two grandsons, Sam Gonzalez and Joe Gonzalez and three step-granddaughters, Amanda Johnson, Rachyl Kisor and Emily Kisor. He is also survived by a brother, Craig Self (Mary Alvis) of St. Patrick, MO, two sisters, Teresa Glasscock of Keokuk and Tina Burrows of Kalona, IA along with many nieces and nephews and a special aunt, Norma Hartwig of Carthage, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill was an over the road truck driver. He drove for many companies including Vermillion Bros and Crete Carriers.

When he wasn’t on the road, he enjoyed watching WWE and NASCAR races and cheering for his favorite drivers, Chase Elliott and Dale Earnhardt. Bill also loved experimenting in the kitchen, crafting new dishes, and collecting unique kitchen gadgets to enhance his cooking adventures.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Burial with military rites will be held in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends from 5 -7 p.m.
