Losses continue in soybeans, corn, wheat

Soybeans were sharply lower on speculative and technical selling. There’s been at least some rainfall in dry parts of the Midwest this week, with the potential for more. August is the big month for beans, but an improved precipitation pattern during July would definitely be an asset for the crop. While this year’s crop might not reach those lofty initial projections, if the conditions are able to stabilize or improve, […]

Broadband investments in rural America remain a priority

The Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Ag Committee says investments in broadband are critical to the success of rural America. “We used to think in terms of the three R’s as in roads, railroads, and runways, and you can throw water into that,” Senator John Boozman of Arkansas tells Brownfield.  “That’s how you developed an area. All of these become pretty important as you look at where we’re […]

Patrick De Haan with GasBuddy says prices are down nearly $2 per gallon year-over-year. “Part of the reason why diesel prices have plummeted so substantially,” he said, “is that demand for diesel has cratered compared to last year.”   Northwest Iowa farmer Kelly Nieuwenhuis says the farm economy is getting some […]
