Radio Keokuk, the Hall family, and Luckys were honored to present Dan Hickey with the Marty Award this last Thursday. Nominated by many in the community, Dan has worked tirelessly over the last year spending his own time and money on improving Oakland Cemetery’s roads. Mr. Hickey, owner of Hickey Contracting in Keokuk, noticed the streets surrounding and in Oakland were in need of repair after visiting the site of his grandaughter Nora’s grave. The Hickey family was struck with the tragic loss of Nora in February of 2019, and through that tragedy have given back to the community in her name.

“It’s all for Nora and in her name”, the surprised Mr. Hickey said when given his award, gesturing to his truck’s license plate which honors her name.

The Marty Hall award is given once a month to nominated individuals of the community who personify the personality, giving nature, and personal impact that the late Keokuk High School teacher Marty Hall did in his time with us in the community.

If you would like to make a donation to the Fund For Nora, please contact the Keokuk Area Community Foundation. To nominate someone for The Marty Award follow the link here.
