First Public Meeting With Keokuk Community School District On GO BOND Scheduled For Tomorrow

Representatives from the Keokuk Area Community School District school board will be holding the first of a series of public meetings to give information and receive feedback from the community as voters of the GO Bond tomorrow. The meeting will take place at Torrence School at 6 pm.

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021 there is a general obligation bond vote for the Keokuk Community School District. The bonds would be in an amount to not exceed $19.9 million. The bonds, if approved by voters, would go towards construction, improvements, repair, and renovation of school properties.

Included in the school district’s plan:

• Construction of a new grades 3-5 building

• Hawthorne Elementary – expansion and renovation, including a cafeteria addition, additional classrooms and other improvements should funds allow

• Calvert Stadium – renovations and improvements to the school district stadium, including the press box, concession and common areas and replacement seating.

• High School – expansion and renovation to include the performing arts space, additional classroom space and entryway and other building upgrades to improve security

Public meetings will be held in each of the school district’s school buildings to reach parents and voters in all areas to learn more about the proposed plans and ask questions.  The first meeting being tomorrow and the following meetings are on the below schedule:

• 8/26 – Thursday @ 6 pm @ Torrence Preschool – 1721 Fulton Street

• 8/30 – Monday @ 6 pm @ Hawthorne Elementary – 2940 Decatur Street

• 8/31 – Tuesday @ 6 pm @ George Washington Elementary – 116 N 8th St

• 9/8 – Wednesday @ 5:30 pm @ High School – 2285 Middle Road
