The ones who deserve it the most are always the most surprised to be honored.
Executive Director of Lydia’s House Susan Sanders was just that when she was recently surprised and honored with the Marty Award in Keokuk. The unsuspecting Ms. Sanders was enjoying an everyday lunch at local Fort Worth Cafe with friend Cesilee Egley, when Marc Johnson of Lucky’s and representative of the Hall family, along with Radio Keokuk’s Leah Jones arrived to bestow the award. Unbeknownst to Ms. Sanders it was all planned and set up by the team and Ms. Egly herself, who nominated Susan for the honor.
“Susan is the director of Lydia’s House Transitional Living For Women In Crisis. She opened up her home for women trying to better themselves from both drug addiction to abuse situations. I myself completed the program. She helps any woman who needs it without thinking twice. She loves them through whatever it is they are dealing with. I know she deserves the Marty award”.
The tri-state area’s only transitional housing facility, Lydia’s House is an organization that provides transitional housing and life skills training for women. It offers assistance to women that are frequently homeless, as they move from dependent, often abusive relationships into independent, self-sufficient lifestyles. Additionally, it assists residents in child reunification if substance abuse is involved. To learn more or to donate to Lydia’s House click here or visit them on Facebook.
