Keokuk’s Matt Campbell officially joins the list of community members honored with the “Marty Award”.

Nominated by Rob Kelly, Matt has worked tirelessly in the community on such projects as the Lydia House and more.

“Matt is one of those people that would give his shirt off of his back if someone needed it. He is always helping others via physical labor, being a major contributor/developer of non-profits (Lydia’s House – to help women get a fresh start to life thru being sober, re-entering the workforce, etc.), helping people that may be in danger by just giving him a phone call and never wanting recognition or even a thanks. I still can’t believe that he can cram all the projects around Keokuk that he is involved in (Church, new non-profit store in the old Osco Drug location, Lydia’s house construction, helping ANYONE that asks, attending his children’s sporting events, and still have time to spend with his family. Matt fits the definition of the Marty Award to a “T”.”

The “Marty Award” is given to well-deserving members of the community in honor of the memory of the late Marty Hall. When the beloved Keokuk teacher passed away on February 2nd, 2019, the outpouring of community grief was instant in the town of Keokuk. When a celebration of life for the beloved Keokuk High School teacher was held in Wright Fieldhouse, there was not an empty seat to be had. There were also many stories to be told. Stories from family, from friends, from students and community members. It was clear to see that Marty touched many lives in his short time here and that what he gave to others had made its mark. The family of Marty Hall along with Marc Johnson and Radio Keokuk’s Leah Jones came together to bring to life the award not only to keep Marty’s memory alive but to honor those in our community that personify the giving spirit Mr. Hall brought to our community.
